Services and activities
The social participation officer is the person responsible for the Communauté bienveillante pour les aînés project, which aims to:
- Develop a network of “scouts.” Scouts are citizens in regular contact with seniors and are trained to identify and refer seniors living in isolation or vulnerable situations to the CAB community worker.
- The aim is to develop a network of volunteers to support seniors. The personalized senior assistance volunteers are trained to identify with a senior who shares their interests and to set up activities that encourage the latter’s social participation. These volunteers receive comprehensive training offered by the CAB, in collaboration with a social worker from the CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS. They are also invited to participate in monthly volunteer meetings to discuss their experiences and to pursue ongoing training.
- The aim is also to develop new senior groups by setting up seniors’ cafés in municipalities in order to encourage seniors to get together, socialize and become socially involved in their communities. The calendar of get-togethers can be consulted here.
- The organization strives to develop, support and foster a welcoming culture in existing senior groups and residences.
- It also develops intergenerational activities (see the event calendar on the CAB website).
